Family Sponsorship Program

Immigration for Spouse and Children

Immigration au Canada

If you are a Canadian Permanent Resident or a Canadian Citizen you can sponsor your spouse and dependant children so they can obtain their Canadian Permanent Resident Visa. Unfortunately, since December 2011 the Canadian Government authorities have suspended the sponsorship of parents and grandparents.

Details of the program

  • The procedure will take approximately 8 to 12 months.
  • You can sponsor your spouse and dependant children regardless of your financial situation. Only the recipients of welfare cannot qualify.
  • Here are the definitions of the terms spouse and dependant children as interpreted by the Canadian Immigration Services:
    • A spouse is a person with whom you are married. If you are not married you must be living with your common-law partner for a minimum of one year.
    • A dependant child is a child below the age of 22. If the child is above the age of 22 he will only be considered dependant if he has been a full-time student since the age of 22 (no interruptions).
